The Yankton Citizens Police Academy is for citizen police_citizen_academy s of all backgrounds and occupations. This program is offered as a public service and free of charge. The CPA is a part of our ongoing efforts to develop citizen awareness and public understanding of law enforcement.

Classes meet on 1 night a week for 8 weeks followed by a graduation ceremony.

Graduates will not be police officers, but will be better-informed citizens in a position to share their experiences with friends and co-workers.

All sessions are from 6:30 to 8:30 pm

Week 1: TBD	Introductions, duties and responsibilities, Patrol Procedures and YPD Tour
Week 2: TBD	Crisis Negotiations, Special Response Team and Mobile Command
Week 3: TBD	Critical Incident Stress Management, Mental Health and Chaplin Duties
Week 4: TBD	Domestic Violence, River City Domestic Violence Center, Human Trafficking
Week 5: TBD	Criminal Investigation, Search and Seizure, Use of force and Less lethal options
Week 6: TBD	Dispatch Information and Tour, School Resource Officer introduction and Taser
Week 7: TBD	Traffic stops, Drug Investigation, DRE and K9
Week 8: TBD	Use of Force Simulator, and Graduation
