City of Yankton Transfer Station's after-hours yard waste & single stream recycling disposal area is open for the public to dispose of grass, leaves, garden waste, and small sticks, as well as recyclables, during the hours the Transfer Station is not open. Access to the after-hours yard waste disposal area is just east of the Transfer Station's main entrance on West 23rd Street. The map below details the entrance and disposal area.

ONLY grass, leaves, garden waste, and small sticks will be accepted in the yard waste piles. Please sort your yard waste into their respective piles and please keep materials such as garbage, trash bags, batteries, rocks, concrete, and any other items out of the yard waste. Please empty all leaves and grass from garbage bags and dispose of the empty bags in the onsite dumpster.  Disposal of household and other waste materials is not available at the after-hours location.

Compost, processed from yard waste, is also available at no cost.  Compost is a mixture of decayed organic matter and is used for fertilizing and conditioning land; Compost is not top soil.

The Transfer Station will also continue to accept yard waste during regular business hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Questions may be directed to the City of Yankton Transfer Station at 668-5212.
