The Discovery Bridge was dedicated on Saturday October 11, 2008. The dedication took place 84 years to the date from the original ribbon cutting for the Meridian Bridge. Special events commemorated the opening of the new Discovery Bridge.

Just as the construction of the Meridian Bridge in 1924 changed the region's economy, the new Discovery Bridge's completion will have significant impact on the entire region.
