Author Visit: Trent Preszler

Subject: Visit with One Book SD Author, Trent Preszler

The Yankton Community Library is excited to host a visit from this year’s One Book South Dakota Author Trent Preszler on Tuesday, July 2 at 12 pm! Participants can attend in person at the library or virtually from the comfort of their homes. For the virtual option, you can join us at: https://meet.goto.com/977657957.

The memoir focuses on a single year during which Preszler, a South Dakota native living on Long Island, mourns the death of his estranged father by using inherited tools to build a wooden canoe. In the process, he comes to better understand his father – a cattle rancher, rodeo champion, and Vietnam War Bronze Star Medal recipient – and himself.

Preszler grew up on a ranch between Faith and Lemmon, SD but has spent much of his adult life in and around New York City. The contrast between those settings, as well as his level of comfort in each one, is at the heart of the book.

Limited copies of the book are available for checkout at the library and through the Libby app. This event is made possible by a grant from the South Dakota Humanities Council. Vermillion’s independent bookstore, Outside of a Dog, will have copies of the book available for sale at the event.
